The Yankees took an early lead, parlaying two walks and  a couple of singles into a pair of runs in the 1st. Orioles starter Chick Estrada walked three more Yankees in the 3rd, and New York added three more runs on a pair of singles. That chased Estrada, who was replaced by Buster Narum (his debut game). Baltimore got its run in the 5th when Powell and Adair hit back-to-back triples. Yankees starter Williams fanned eight while allowing just five hits.

Vic Davalillo broke a scoreless tie in the Indians 5th with a two-run homer, and Cleveland made it 3-0 in the 6th. Facing Detroit reliever Bob Dustal in the 8th, the Tribe loaded the bases, scored a run on an Al Luplow grounder and two more when pitcher Jerry Walker singled for a 6-0 lead. The Tigers had plenty of opportunities but left fourteen baserunners stranded.

Bob Allison's two-run homer in the 1st gave Minnesota an early lead. The Twins added a run in the 3rd, helped by a KC error. But the A's had a big 4th inning rally; after striking out the first two Kansas City batters, Camilo Pascual gave up two walks, a single, and a three-run double to Manny Jimenez. Dick Howser walked and Tartabull hit a two-run triple, chasing Pascual and catapulting the Athletics to 5-3 lead. Minnesota closed the gap by a run in the 7th, but the A's held on to win. Debut game for pitcher Dale Willis (KCA) and catcher Paul Ratliff (MIN).
