In the Dodgers 3rd a triple by Gene Oliver, a double by Tommy Davis, and a single by Frank Howard gave Los Angeles a 3-0 lead. Three runs were all Don Drysdale needed; in the first eight innings a Houston base runner reached second only once. The Colt 45's avoided a shutout when Al Spangler opened the 9th with a double, reached third on a Rusty Staub single, and scored when Drysdale threw a wild pitch.

Len Gabrielson's two-run homer contributed to a 4-0 Braves lead in the 1st. In the Braves 5th, Frank Bolling doubled and later scored on an Eddie Mathews single. Jim Hickman's solo homer in the 7th and Duke Snider's dinger in the 9th were the only runs for the Mets. Milwaukee starter Lew Burdette pitched a complete game without issuing a single walk, and, apart from the two home runs, allowed just two Mets to hit their way on.

Two singles and Mazeroski's homer gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Cincinnati cut the deficit by one in the 4th when an error by third baseman Bill Bailey and a balk by Bob Friend contributed to an unearned run by Frank Robinson. In the 6th the Bucs broke it open wit hfour hits, which, combined with another Cincinnati error, gave them four more runs. A Pete Rose triple and a Frank Robinson homer led an 8th inning Reds rally, making the score 7-4, but in the Pirates 9th Reds reliever John Tsitouris balked and threw a wild pitch while the Pirates shelled him for five runs on seven hits.
